Check This Out: Lensbaby Competition

La semaine prochaine, je serais l'heureux propriétaire d'un Lensbaby Composer, un objectif un peu bizarre à mise au point manuelle avec une zone de netteté sélective. En fait, techniquement je suis déjà propriétaire, mais il m'attend à Boston où je pars Lundi pour le boulot. Depuis que j'ai décidé de faire cet achat (somme toute assez modeste), je regarde régulièrement le site de Lensbaby ou de nombreuses photos utilisant cet objectif sont publiées. Lensbaby va même publier un livre de photos et a fait appel aux amateurs pour proposer les leurs. Ce sont les résultats de ce concours qui viennent d'être publiés, même si pour ma part je trouve que certaines photos de la section mentions honorables sont plus intéressantes que les gagnants... Next week I will be the happy owner of a Lensbaby Composer, a somewhat strange manual focus lens with selective sharpness. Technically, I'm already the owner actually, but it's waiting for me in Boston where I will be next week. Since I decided to purchase this (reasonably priced) lens, I regularly check the Lensbaby website where many photos using their lenses are published. Lensbaby is even going to publish a book of photos and asked for amateur contributions. The results of that contest have just been published even if in my opinion some of the honorable mention photos are a lot more interesting than some of the winners... Check this out: Harmonica, an instrument of the people

Il y a une fonction super sur Flickr qui s'appelle Expo. Avec cette fonction vous pouvez réunir des photos d'autres membres et en faire une collection. Alors que je flanais à la recherche de photos d'harmonicas, je me suis rendu compte qu'à côté des nombreuses et inévitables photos de concerts et de musiciens professionels, il y avait également plein de photos de gens de tous les jours, jeunes ou vieux, jouant dans la rue ou chez eux. Des photos magnifiques qui m'ont rappelé pourquoi j'adorais cet instrument; sa simplicité et son accessibilité... Bref, cette expo est intitulée Harmonica, an instrument of the people et j'espère qu'elle vous plaira!

There's a great feature on Flickr called Expo. With it you can gather photos from other members into a collection. While I was fishing around for harmonica photos, I realised that alongside the numerous and inevitable photos of pro musicians there were many photos of everyday people, young or old, playing harmonica in the street or in their homes. Superb photos that reminded why I love this is instrument: simplicity and accesssibility... Anyway, the expo is entitled Harmonica, an instrument of the people and I hope you'll like it!

Check This Out: Photos d'Etoiles

L'étonnant et excellent site de Dan Newton, Liquid in Plastic présente ses travaux photographiques et diverses expérimentations. En particulier, il présent de sympathiques tutoriaux sur divers sujets, dont en particulier celui-ci sur la photographie d'étoiles en continu. Ca donne des photos absolument magnifiques, et je sais à quoi je vais m'essayer cet été!

Dan Newton's astounding and excellent blog Liquid in Plastic presents his photographic work as well as various experiments. In particular, it includes a "How To..." section on various topics, including this one on startrail photography. The results are truly superb, and I know what I'll be trialling this summer!

Check This Out: Days with my Father

Un tweet d'un des photographes que je suis m'a fait découvrir la série Days with my Father de Phillip Toledano. C'est une expérience bouleversante que de suivre cette histoire en photo de l'amour d'un fils pour son père vieillissant. Les photos sont magnifiques de justesse, poignantes et d'une proximité incroyable. J'en suis ressorti très ému, et même si ce n'est pas vraiment gai, je vous le recommande très vivement...

A tweet from one of the photographers I follow made me discover the Days with my Father series by Phillip Toledano. Reading through this story in pictures of a son's love for his ageing father nearly moved me to tears. The photos are just superbly right, deeply moving and convey an incredible closeness. It's not exactly joyous, but I heartily recommend it nonetheless...

Peter Funch a une technique photographique très digitale dont je trouve les résultats extra. Ce qu'il fait (si je comprends bien) c'est photographier les passants au même endroit avec un trépied positionné précisément à l'identique. Je suppose qu'il fait ces photos des jours différents mais à la même heure et avec une illumination comparable. Ensuite il superpose les photos. Cela lui permet de créer des compositions artificielles avec des sujets naturels. La série s'intitule Babel Tales.

Peter Funch has a decidedly digital photography technique that I think produces really cool results. What he does (if I understand it correctly) is shoot passers-by in the same location with a tripod always in the absolute identical position on various days (presumably at the same time of day and when the light is similar) and he then superimposes the photographs. This allows him to do artificial compositions with natural subjects. The series is called Babel Tales.

Check This Out: Eau Lente

Un des trucs auxquels j'aimerais m'essayer quand j'aurais le matériel adéquat (essentiellement un bon trépied, et peut-être quelques filtres) c'est de photographier des plans d'eau et cours d'eau en exposition lente. Je ne doute pas qu'il s'agisse d'un art qui prend du temps à s'apprendre, mais je trouve certains des résultats magnifiques, comme sur la galerie présentée ici, par le photographe Davidone.

One of the things I'd like to try once I get the adequate gear (mostly a tripod and maybe some specific filters) is to shoot lakes or rivers with a long shutter speed. I don't doubt it's an art that's hard to master, but I find the results superb, as on the gallery presented here, by photograph Davidone.

Check This Out: Tenessee Caves

J'ai décidé de lancer une nouvelle rubrique intitulée "Check This Out", ou "Allez Jeter un Oeil à Ca" en Français (mais c'est trop long, alors je garde l'anglais!) Cette rubrique a simplement pour but de vous montrer un set de photos que je trouve belles ou intéressantes.
