Cette photo du Washington Memorial a été prise à l'arrachée d'un taxi à mon atterrissage à Washington DC. Du coup les réglages sont bizarres, mais vu les circonstances, je ne m'en sors pas si mal, je trouve!
This photo of the Washington Memorial was shot in a hurry from a cab window just after landing in DC. As a consequence, the settings are strange, but considering the circumstances, I'm not too unhappy with the results!

Il y a deux semaines, lorsque j'étais à Washington pour le boulot, j'en ai profité pour faire un saut dans un magasin de photo. Le cours du dollar étant super faible, il y a des bonnes affaires à faire, et j'ai finalement fait le saut pour m'équiper d'un 50mm 1.4. Le Canon que je visais n'était pas stocké, mais le Sigma équivalent (un peu plus haut de gamme, semble-t'il) était au prix du Canon en France, alors bon... J'ai commencé à m'en servir pour des portraits et des abstractions issues de mon imagination dérangée. Vous en verrez les résultats sur ce blog dans les semaines à venir. Mais je peux en tous cas vous dire que pour le moment j'en suis très content!
Two weeks ago, when I was in Washington for work, I passed by a camera shop. The dollar rate is so low that there are some good deals to be made for a Eurozone guy, and I finally decided to purchase a 50mm 1.4 lens. The Canon I aimed for was out of stock, but the equivalent Sigma (apparently a slightly higher standard) was at the price of the Canon in France so... I've started using it for portraits and abstractions from my deranged imagination. You'll see some of the results on this blog in the coming weeks, but meanwhile suffice it to say that I am very happy with that purchase!

Another vegetable attempt! Here, a vat of red and green chilli peppers; I liked the colors. The depth diagonal is strange, so I'll have to revisit that, probably...

Dans les photos de concert il y a évidemment des expressions à saisir, mais aussi des moments de complicité. Même si elle brise probablement toutes les règles classiques de la photographie (le personnage de face est flou et celui de dos est net, etc.) j'aime bien l'ambiance que dégage cette photo...
During concert photography, there are of course expressions to capture, but also moments where the musicians connect together. Even if this picture probably breaches every classical rule of photography (the facing character is blurred, the sharp one's back is the main element...) I like the atmosphere here...

Je suis fasciné par l'horloge de la gare de St Pancras à Londres. Perdue au milieu du treillis de poutrelles bleues, elle a une majesté particulière...
I'm fascinated by the clock of the St Pancras train station in London. Lost amongst the fabric of blue beams, it conveys a special majesty.

Pas grand chose à dire, sinon qu'au delà des tentatives artistiques (fréquemment ratées) de l'apprenti photographe, on peut aussi tenter des photos souvenir un peu plus jolies qu'avec un compact!
Not much to say except that beyond (often failed) artistic endeavours, the photographer apprentice also tries to get pretty souvenir shots once in a while!

Difficile de faire trois pas à Wahington sans rencontrer un drapeau américain. Je suppose que cette photo est un classique, mais j'avais envie de capturer les drapeaux qui claquaient au vent.
It's hard to walk about DC without encountering Stars & Stripes everywhere. I guess this photo is really classic, but I wanted to shoot the flags blowing in the wind.

J'ai eu la chance de voir l'Orchestre National de Jazz en concert à Londres. Les possibilités de prises de vues étaient limitées par l'agencement de la scène avec le batteur devant, mais j'en ai extrait quand même cette jolie photo de Joce Mienniel, étonnant flutiste.
I was lucky enough to see the Orchestre National de Jazz in concert in London. The picture opportunities were restricted by the stage layout since the drummer was at the front, but I managed to extract this nice picture of Joce Mienniel, an astonishing flautist.

I've uploaded the full processed photo shoot from the Derek Trucks concert in Paris in April on Flickr. It was a tough bit of work, since this was one of my first shoots and I was still uncomfortable with a lot of the settings. Still, there are a few nice photos there, I think. Judge for yourself!

Je ne fais que débuter dans la gestion des reflets, mais j'ai réussi dans le cas présent à faire en sorte que le reflet du toit de la gare de St Pancras dans le pare-brise de l'Eurostar soit net. Le reste aurait mérité un peu plus de champ à droite, sans doute...
I'm only at the very beginning of finding how to manage reflections, but in the present case I managed to ensure that the reflection of the roof os St Pancras station in the windshield of the Eurostar stayed sharp. The rest of the picture would probably have been improved by a wider space on the right...
